A mob tried to attack Chief Minister N Biren Singh's empty ancestral house on Thursday night, despite a security clampdown and curfew in the Imphal valley. Security forces, however, were successful in foiling the attempt after firing in the air. Singh lives in a separate, well-guarded official residence in the centre of the state's capital.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday visited New Delhi's furniture market and interacted with carpenters. During his visit, he listened to their problems and also tried his hand at making furniture. "Today I went to Asia's largest furniture market located in Kirti Nagar, Delhi, and met the carpenter brothers. Apart from being hard workers, they are also amazing artists-experts at carving strength and beauty," Rahul Gandhi said in a post on X. "We talked a lot, got to know a little about their skills, and tried to learn a little," he added. The Congress party also shared pictures of Rahul Gandhi's visit to the Kirti Nagar market on X.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday "welcomed" the CBI's preliminary inquiry into alleged irregularities in the construction of his bungalow while asserting that nothing will come out of it as there "is nothing wrong". He also targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and claimed the action showed his "nervousness". The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a preliminary enquiry to look into alleged "irregularities and misconduct" by unidentified public servants of the Delhi government in connection with the construction of a new official residence for the chief minister, officials said on Wednesday. Reacting to the CBI action, Kejriwal told reporters, "The prime minister is nervous. This shows his nervousness. The inquiry against me is nothing new. So far, inquiries have been conducted against me in more than 50 cases in the last eight years."

Ashwin Dani, the co-founder of Asian Paints, passed away on Thursday. He was an Indian billionaire businessman, and the non-executive chairman of Asian Paints Ltd, India's largest paint company with operations in 16 countries. Dani graduated from the University of Bombay with specialisation in the technology of Paints, Varnishes and Pigments. After his graduation, his father - who co-founded Asian Paints in 1942 - sent him to the US for further studies. He joined the University of Akron in Ohio, from where he got a Masters Degree in Polymer Science. After his MSc, Dani attended the Rensselaer Polytechnic in New York from where he secured a Diploma in Colour Science.

A 20-year-old government job aspirant allegedly hanged himself in his house in the Kunhari area here, police said on Thursday. 
The body of Tanveer Khan was on Wednesday afternoon found hanging in his rented house at Krishna Vihar Colony where he lived with his father and younger sister, DSP Khiv Singh Rathore said.

A fresh bout of violence, this time led by students, broke out in the state capital on Tuesday after photos of the bodies of two youths who went missing in July went viral on social media.
