NEET exam and UGC-NET 2024 LIVE news updates: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on June 20 hit out against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, claiming that he has failed to address the issue of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) paper leaks in India. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav today slammed the NDA government over cancellation of the UGC-NET exam, saying the paper mafia is "rigging exams" under the BJP rule. Yadav stated if the police recruitment exam is leaked, it will have a bearing on law and order while if there is a fraud in the NEET exam, honest people will not become doctors. Likewise the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam will have a bearing on the education system.

After a student claimed in his confessional note that he had access to a copy of the NEET-UG exam paper beforehand,  the Bihar Police's Economic Offenses Unit said it will soon investigate the case, and submit a report on it to the education Ministry soon.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday released the admit cards for candidates who are now appearing for retest of the NEET UG 2024 on its official website– neet.ntaonline.in. Only those candidates who had received grace marks by NTA due to loss of exam time can take the retest. Also, the Supreme Court today sought responses from the Centre, the NTA and others on petitions seeking the cancelation of NEET-UG 2024, and a court-monitored probe into the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam. The SC also stayed proceedings in pleas filed in Rajasthan, Calcutta and Bombay High Courts on the alleged paper leak in the NEET-UG 2024 examination.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said every year the PM conducts a "grand tamasha of what he calls 'Pareeksha pe Charcha'." "Yet, his government cannot even conduct an examination without leaks and frauds," he added. The opposition party also asked the prime minister if he would "leak pe speak." The  education ministry  on Wednesday night said that the UGC-NET exam stands cancelled following inputs that the exam's integrity has been compromised. The central government has cancelled the UGC-NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency, just a day after it was held. Over 900,000 candidates had sat for the exam, which is conducted to determine eligibility for junior research fellowships.

The Ministry of Education stated that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has received inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit (NCTAU) of Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) on the examination.“These inputs prima-facie indicate that the integrity of the aforesaid examination may have been compromised,” the ministry said.

A fresh examination will be conducted, for which information shall be shared separately , it further added. The matter will also be handed over to the CBI for an exhaustive probe. Coming amid the ongoing row over the alleged irregularities in the medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024, the UGC-NET cancellation adds to the NTA's mounting troubles. The case is being heard in the Supreme Court, which observed on Tuesday that it did not want “even 0.001 per cent negligence.”

The NTA is an autonomous body, set up by the Centre to conducting entrance examinations for admission/fellowship in higher educational institutions. The NTA is supposed to undertake all these responsibilities in a “scientific manner” in consultation with the subject matter experts and psychometricians.

The UGC NET or National Eligibility Test is an examination conducted for the appointment of assistant professors, junior research fellowships, and admission to PhD in universities. In a statement, the Education Ministry said the June exam of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) was conducted on Tuesday in OMR (pen and paper) mode in two shifts across the country.
