'BSNL unable to compete with pvt telcos without 4G, 5G, check tariff hike'

State-run BSNL is unable to compete with private telecom operators in the absence of 4G and 5G services due to which there is no restraint on mobile service providers from raising tariff, BSNL Employees Union said on Tuesday. BSNL Employees Union in a letter to the union communications minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the recent tariff hike by the private telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel is unwarranted as they are profitable companies. "Earlier, due to the competition from BSNL, the private telecom service providers were restrained from increasing their tariffs capriciously. However, the scenario has changed now. BSNL has not been able to launch its 4G and 5G services till date, as a result of which it is handicapped from competing with the private operators and thereby restraining their arbitrary tariff hikes," the letter said. Recently, all three private operators announced an increase in mobile service rates in the range of 10-27 per cent. While new tariff

Army inducts 1st-ever indigenous chip-based 4G station from Signaltron

Indian army has inducted the first-ever indigenous chip-based 4G mobile base station, which it procured from Bangalore-based firm Signaltron through the government e-marketplace portal, a top company official said. Signaltron founder Himamshu Khasnis told PTI that the chip used in the Sahyadri LTE base stations has been developed by Signalchip. Earlier in 2010, Khasnis and his team founded a fabless semiconductor company Signalchip to make chips for 4G and 5G networks. "Signaltron has built the entire system indigenously using India's first chips for 4G and 5G networks developed by Signalchip. This is the first time an Indian system running on an Indian chip for complex communication technology has been inducted into the army. Using indigenous chips gives a high degree of control on the security of the system in its operation," Khasnis said. He said the Indian Army had posted a bid on GeM (Government e-Marketplace) for the supply of 4G LTE NIB (Network In a Box) solution last ...

Jakson Green bags NTPC bid for project to produce 4G ethanol from flue gas

New energy transition platform Jakson Green on Wednesday said it has bagged an order from state-owned NTPC for setting up a plant to produce 4G ethanol from flue gas. The proposed plant at Lara in Chhattisgarh will produce 10 tonnes per day (TPD) of 4G ethanol from flue gases emitted from power plants, a company statement said. Using the latest carbon capture technology by Veolia Carbon Clean, the plant will capture 25 TPD CO2 from flue gases, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, it said. Also, 3 tonnes per day of green hydrogen will be generated through 7.5 MW electrolyser, the statement said. Captured carbon dioxide (CO2) and generated hydrogen (H2) are combined via advanced microbial fermentation technology from LanzaTech Inc., converting these inputs into 4G ethanol, it explained According to the statement, Jakson Green has been awarded a critical role in India's groundbreaking project towards a greener future, establishing the world's first flue gas CO2-to-4G etha

Indigenously-developed 5G, 4G tech roll out this year: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Indigenously-developed 5G and 4G telecom technology stack will be rolled out in the country this year and the platform will be offered to the world from next year, Union telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Monday. While speaking at The Business 20 (B20), the official G20 dialogue forum with the global business community, Vaishnaw said that only five countries in the world have end-to-end 4G-5G telecom technology stack but now with the public-private partnership, India has developed its own technology which has been tested to handle 10 million simultaneous calls. "Our private and public partnership approach has given us a solution where the core was developed, invested by the public sector, public funds, and everything else sitting on it comes from the private partners. In this entire 2023, we will be rolling it out on about 50,000 to 70,000, towers, sites and then in 2024 will be offering it to the world," Vaishnaw said.
