Yediyurappa dares CM Siddaramaiah to dissolve Assembly, hold elections now

BJP stalwart B S Yediyurappa on Thursday challenged Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to dissolve the Karnataka Assembly and go for elections now and claimed that the saffron party will win 140 to 150 seats. He said the people of the state have rejected the 'useless guarantees', money and muscle power of the Congress government and opted for the BJP in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. "I challenge Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, if he has guts, then dissolve the Assembly and go for elections again. Then only you will know what your position is. If the elections are held, BJP will win 140 to 150 seats," the Lingayat strongman said during the BJP state special executive meeting organised at the Palace Grounds here. Karnataka has 224 Assembly and 28 Lok Sabha seats. The former chief minister said in the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP-JD(S) alliance won 19 seats and the BJP got a majority in 142 assembly segments. Just a year ago, the Congress had come to power by winning 134 seats, b

LS polls: BJP once again falls back on Yediyurappa to deliver in Karnataka

BJP veteran B S Yediyurappa is out of power and electoral politics for sure, but his clout in the party's affairs in Karnataka remains undiminished as its central leadership seems to be once again falling back on this seasoned oarsman to deliver in the coming Lok Sabha polls. Whether it is selection of candidates or quelling dissidence in multiple constituencies, the party's 81-year-old central election committee member is seen to be "man-of-the-season." Stakes are indeed high for the BJP Parliamentary Board member as he will have to ensure that his son B Y Vijayendra consolidates his position as the party's state President and silence critics who have questioned his selection for the post ignoring the claims of experienced hands. The octogenarian, who has already announced his retirement from electoral politics, is sought to be put on the pedestal by the BJP's central leaders, making him a key poll mascot in the state, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The reasons are not f

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will address a public meeting at Shivamogga, the home turf of former Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa. This will be his second such meeting in Karnataka since the announcement of Lok Sabha election dates. The first was on Saturday at Kalaburagi, the home turf of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. BJP is expecting a huge turnout at the Allama Prabhu ground (Freedom Park) for the meet in the home district of Yediyurappa, who is a member of the party's all important Parliamentary board. Yediyurappa's elder son B Y Raghavendra is the BJP candidate for the Shimoga Lok Sabha constituency, where former deputy chief minister K S Eshwarappa has announced he will contest as an independent candidate as he is upset over the denial of ticket to his son K E Kantesh to contest from Haveri LS constituency. Eshwarappa has even announced that he will skip Modi's public meeting. The disgruntled leader had earlier stated that the Prime Minister "resid

BJP leader Eshwarappa blames Yediyurappa for son being denied BJP ticket

Senior BJP leader K S Eshwarappa has blamed former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for his son K E Kantesh being denied party ticket to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from Haveri seat. The 75-year-old former Deputy Chief Minister alleged that Yediyurappa, who is a member of the BJP Parliamentary Board, had assured ticket to his son and also promised to campaign for his victory but "cheated him." The BJP on Wednesday named former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai for the Haveri seat. He said Yediyurappa ensured that Bommai and Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shobha Karandlaje got the BJP ticket to contest the elections, and "not for his son." Eshwarappa, who had served as the party's State President, said his followers and well-wishers are exerting pressure on him to contest as an independent in Shivamogga constituency, adding, he has convened a meeting with his supporters here on Friday after which he would decide on his next step. Will ensure that BJP wins more than 25 LS seats in K'taka: Ex-CM Shettar

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Saturday said the process to bring him back to the BJP had been on for the last five to six months, as he gave large credit to state president B Y Vijayendra and veteran leader B S Yediyurappa. He said one of the main reasons for his return to the BJP is to contribute towards making Narendra Modi prime minister once again, and that he will work towards ensuring that the party wins most of the seats in the state in the coming Lok Sabha polls. Shettar rejoined the BJP by quitting Congress in New Delhi on Thursday. He had joined the grand old party, ahead of assembly polls last year, after being denied a ticket by the BJP to contest the elections. "It is the wish of crores of Indians that Modi's leadership is needed for the country. K'taka CM lashes at BJP leaders on protest against arrest of Hindu activist

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP over its protest against the arrest of a Hindu activist in Hubballi in connection with a 31-year-old case related to Ram temple agitation, saying leaders of the opposition party need to understand that assigning caste and religious labels to criminals is extremely dangerous. He recalled that even when the BJP government was in power in the state, the Lokayukta police had arrested the then Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and sent him to jail. "Is that Hubballi criminal suspect any greater Hindu or devotee of Rama than Yediyurappa? So, was the government at that time anti-Hindu? Not even the leaders of the BJP's parent organisation called the government that arrested Hindu Yediyurappa anti-Hindu, did they? Why this outcry now?", Siddaramaiah said. "The Congress government is becoming more popular day by day. Out of desperation, BJP leaders are rallying around a criminal suspect", the Chief Minister ...

Caste census not done systematically, new survey must be done: Yediyurappa

Veteran BJP leader B S Yediyurappa on Sunday said state's Socio-Economic and Education Survey, popularly known as the "caste census," was not done systematically, and urged the Congress government in Karnataka to get a fresh survey done and present the facts before the people. Karnataka's two dominant communities -- Vokkaliags and Lingayats -- too have expressed disapproval about the survey, calling it unscientific, and have demanded that it be rejected and a fresh survey to be conducted. "There is a feeling in everyone's mind that the survey has not been done systematically. I too have a similar opinion. So, a fresh cast census has to be done and facts have to be made known to people. I urge the government to make honest efforts in this regard," Yediyurappa said. Yediyurappa, a former Chief Minister hails from the Lingayat community. The then Siddaramaiah-led Congress government (2013-2018) in 2015 had commissioned the social-economic and educational survey, popularly known as the

Don't fall for Congress' lies, says Yediyurappa in poll-bound Telangana

Senior BJP leader B S Yediyurappa on Wednesday accused the Congress of deceiving the people of Karnataka by not implementing its five pre-poll guarantees after coming to power. The former Karnataka CM also urged the people of Telangana not to fall for Congress party's "lies and empty promises". Addressing reporters here, he said 'Karnataka model' is Congress' election model in other states. The Congress had promised five guarantees to voters in Karnataka and won the elections in May this year. It is selling "Karnataka model" in Telangana and other poll-bound states, he said. "The party has, in fact, hoodwinked the people in Karnataka after winning the elections as its government has failed to implement the guarantee schemes," he added. "The Congress manifesto includes six guarantee schemes only to cheat the voters of the state. I appeal, request the people of Telangana not to get cheated by Congress party's lies and empty promises," he said.

Congress govt in Karnataka in deep slumber, says former CM Yediyurappa

Alleging that the Congress government in Karnataka was in deep slumber over the drought situation, veteran BJP leader B S Yediyurappa on Sunday said his party will tour the state highlighting its 'failures,' and to strengthen the saffron party ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Taking exception to the style of functioning of the Siddaramaiah-led government, the former Chief Minister accused the administration of releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu under pressure from the neighbouring state. Yediyurappa and several other BJP leaders today visited Kurudumale's lord Ganesha temple here and offered prayers to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday and ahead of the party's state wide tour. Greeting Modi on his birthday, Yediyurappa said, "To pray to god that he becomes PM once again, I have come here with other party leaders." Noting that there was severe drought in the state, he said the government here has completely forgotten the public interest and is in a deep slumber. This ...
