Airtel-Nokia to cut CO2 emissions by 143K MT annually under 'Green 5G'

Telco major Bharti Airtel and Finnish telecom and IT company Nokia on Tuesday said their collaboration to launch the 'Green 5G' initiative is aimed at improving energy efficiency on Airtel's mobile network and reduce its carbon emissions by 143,413 metric tons of CO2 annually. The project will focus on enhancing energy efficiency across Airtel's extensive 4G/5G Radio Access Network (RAN) by leveraging technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as a suite of advanced software features and innovative solutions, a joint statement said. "The comprehensive solution is expected to enhance energy efficiency during peak and off-peak hours and is projected to reduce Airtel's carbon emissions by an estimated 143,413 metric tons of CO2 annually," it said. Bharti Airtel prepays Rs 8,465 crore to DoT for spectrum acquired in 2016

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel on Monday said it has prepaid Rs 8,465 crore to the government against spectrum it acquired in 2016. These liabilities carried an interest rate of 9.3 per cent, the company said in a statement. "Bharti Airtel, one of India's leading telecommunications service providers, today said that it has prepaid Rs 8,465 crore to the Department of Telecom (Government of India) against spectrum acquired in 2016," the statement said.

Bharti Airtel on Monday announced the launch of a fixed deposits marketplace under its digital arm Airtel Finance, backed by partnerships with leading NBFCs and small finance banks. The marketplace enables Airtel Finance to provide an assured return and fixed-income investment option on the digital platform that is built on top of Airtel's Thanks App framework, according to a release. "Bharti Airtel today announced the launch of a fixed deposits marketplace under its digital arm, Airtel Finance. These fixed deposits come at an attractive interest rate of up to 9.1 per cent per annum," it said. Airtel Payments Bank Q1 results: PAT up 41% to Rs 7.2 cr on revenue rise

Airtel Payments Bank on Thursday said its net profit for the June quarter rose 41 per cent year-on-year to Rs 7.2 crore, amid uptick in digital savings bank accounts alongside other digital offerings. Announcing its consolidated report card for the first quarter ended on June 30, 2024, Airtel Payments Bank said it has hit a significant milestone and that, in a first, the bank's quarterly revenue grew to Rs 610 crore, up by 52 per cent on-year. The net profits stood at Rs 7.2 crore, up by 41 per cent year on year. "During the quarter, the Bank's Monthly Transacting Users (MTU) exceeded 88 million giving a boost to customer deposits, which grew by 53 per cent year-on-year to Rs 2,943 crore," it said. Telecom industry body COAI on Wednesday said it expects the government to allocate the 6 GHz band spectrum for 5G network expansion and roll out a fair share data network usage policy to make big apps pay for the excessive traffic generated by them. COAI, whose members include Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and others, released its priority wishlist for the newly formed government at the Centre on Wednesday. Bharti Airtel to merge Sri Lanka ops with Dialog Axiata in equity swap deal

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel will merge its Sri Lanka operations with Dialog Axiata in an equity swap deal, a joint statement said on Thursday. Airtel Lanka's turnover in financial year 2023 was Rs 294 crore and it contributed 0.21 per cent to Bharti Airtel's overall business. "Dialog Axiata PLC , Axiata Group Berhad (Axiata) and Bharti Airtel Limited signed a definitive agreement to combine their operations in Sri Lanka," the statement said. Under the agreement, Sri Lanka-based telecom operator Dialog will acquire 100 per cent of the issued shares in Airtel Lanka, in consideration of which Dialog will issue to Bharti Airtel, ordinary voting shares which will amount to 10.355 per cent of the total issued shares of Dialog by way of a share swap, it said. Bharti Airtel on Friday said it will allot 38.6 lakh equity shares to certain FCCB holders at a conversion price of Rs 518 per equity share. This follows receipt of notice for conversion of FCCBs (Foreign Currency Convertible Bonds) of principal value of USD 27,795,000 from the FCCBs holders. Accordingly, it said, the paid-up equity share capital of the company has increased. India's largest telecom operator Reliance Jio added 31.59 lakh mobile users while rival Bharti Airtel's subscriber gain came in at 3.52 lakh in October 2023, as per monthly subscriber data by TRAI. There was no relief for the troubled telco Vodafone Idea on subscriber front, as it lost 20.44 lakh wireless subscribers in October. With the addition of 31.59 lakh users, Jio's total wireless subscriber count climbed to 45.23 crore in October from 44.92 crore in September. Sunil Mittal-led Airtel's wireless subscriber gain of 3.52 lakh pushed up the telco's user tally to 37.81 crore in October. The subscriber losses of Vodafone Idea Ltd (VIL) dragged its wireless user base to 22.54 crore in October, the data by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) showed.
