Working with 5.5 million people under CSR initiative, says HCL Foundation

HCL Foundation, the CSR wing of HCL Tech, said on Monday that it is working with 5.5 million people across 20 states through its CSR initiatives. Nidhi Pundhir, Vice President, Global CSR, HCLTech, and Director, of HCL Foundation, said, "We have contributed significantly during emergencies such as the Michaung cyclone, and the cold wave in Delhi." "The overall reach of HCL Foundation has significantly increased, with the foundation currently working with 5.5 million people across 20-plus states. We have invested heavily, focussing on ultra-poor poverty alleviation, through our flagship programme Uday," Pundhir said. "HCL Foundation will continue to invest in its flagship programmes like Uday, Samuday, HCL Tech Grant, Harit, Sports for Change, my e-Haat, and HCL Academy," Pundhir said on the foundation's plans for 2024.

No relief in cold wave conditions in North India, temperature below normal

There was no let-up in the cold wave condition in Punjab and Haryana on Saturday with minimum temperatures staying below normal at several places. Hisar in Haryana was the coldest place as it shivered at 3.1 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal, according to a report of the Meteorological Department here. Among other places, Ambala and Karnal experienced cold weather conditions at 6.2 and 4.6 degrees Celsius respectively. Narnaul, Sirsa, Faridabad, and Fatehabad recorded 7.6 degrees Celsius, 4 degrees Celsius, 3.9 degrees Celsius, and 3.6 degrees Celsius. Faridkot in Punjab was the coldest place in the state as it shivered at 3.6 degrees Celsius. Amritsar reeled at 3.7 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their respective minimums of 6 and 6.5 degrees Celsius. At 3.6 degrees Celsius, Delhi records coldest morning this winter

Delhi on Saturday recorded its lowest minimum temperature of the season at 3.6 degrees Celsius and thick fog blanketed several parts of the city, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. On Friday, the national capital had recorded a minimum temperature of 3.9 degrees Celsius, the lowest in five years. The maximum temperature on Saturday is likely to settle around 19 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. The visibility at Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's main weather station, was 200 metres at 5:30 am, it said. According to the Railways, 18 Delhi-bound trains were delayed by one to six hours due to the fog. According to the IMD, very dense fog is when visibility is between 0 and 50 metres, between 51 and 200 metres is dense, between 201 and 500 metres moderate, and between 501 and 1,000 metres shallow. Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 365 at 9 am, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 ...
