A strong dust storm hit several parts of Delhi-NCR on Thursday night, the weather department said. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), The city is experiencing a change in the weather due to the impact of a new western disturbance. Delhiites breathed a sigh of relief on Thursday as the scorching heat took a slight break with the maximum temperature dropping from 44 degrees Celsius a day ago to 41.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, according to the weather department. The minimum temperature settled at 24.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal while the relative humidity oscillated between 39 per cent and 57 per cent, according to the IMD bulletin. While Safdarjung, the city's primary weather station, noted a high of 41.2 degrees Celsius, Delhi's other weather stations such as Najafgarh and Narela recorded maximum temperatures of 44.4 degrees Celsius and 42.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Dust storm, cloudy sky provide respite from heatwave conditions in Delhi

Delhi experienced a sudden shift in weather on Saturday afternoon as a dust storm swept through the city accompanied by a cloudy sky. The change in the weather brought some relief for the city, which has been experiencing severe heatwave conditions for the last five days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted earlier that due to western disturbances, the national capital might experience a change in weather, including cloudy skies, a dust storm or a thunderstorm with very light rain accompanied by gusty winds. The weather office said the maximum temperature in the city is likely to settle around 43 degrees Celsius.

Illegal hoardings in Maha: 15 cases lodged; billboards, banners removed

As many as 15 cases pertaining to illegal hoardings have been registered in Maharashtra's Latur city, including 11 on a single day, civic officials said. The Latur Municipal Corporation authorities removed two hoardings and 15 banners from the city on Monday, they said. The action was taken against the backdrop of the collapse of an illegal hoarding in Mumbai on May 13, which claimed 16 lives and injured several others. The Latur civic body had given a deadline till Sunday for the removal of illegal hoardings from the city, an official release said on Monday. After the deadline ended, 11 cases related to illegal hoardings were registered on Monday, it said. Since last week (after the hoarding crash incident in Mumbai), a total of 15 cases have been registered, the civic body said. Mumbai storm: BMC issues notice to ad agency for removal of 3 hoardings

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to an advertisement agency on Monday after the Ghatkopar billboard collapse incident, asking it to immediately remove the remaining three hoardings near the spot, officials said. The notice has been issued to M/s Ego Media for installing the hoarding that collapsed on the petrol pump during the gusty winds on Monday evening. According to police, eight persons were killed and more than 70 were injured in the incident. "The BMC has asked the ad agency to remove the remaining three hoardings immediately for not having valid permission," an official said. The Assistant Police Commissioner (Admin) had given permission for erecting the four hoardings on behalf of the Commissioner of Railway Police, Mumbai, including the one which collapsed on Monday, but no official permission or NOC was obtained from the BMC. The official said the land on which the hoarding was erected is the Collector land and it was in possession of Police .

Pleasant weather in Delhi after dust storm, max temp likely to be 39 deg

The national capital on Saturday woke up to a pleasant weather after it witnessed overnight dust storms and rain. The minimum temperature in Delhi settled at 24.9 degrees Celsius, 0.5 notch below the season's average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather office has predicted thunderstorms with rain during the day. The city recorded 0.4 mm rain in the last 24 hours and the humidity was 62 per cent at 8.30 am, the IMD said. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 39 degrees Celsius. The Air Quality Index (AQI) of the national capital was recorded in the "poor" category with a reading of 207 at 9 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between 0-50 is considered "good", 51-100 "satisfactory", 101-200 "moderate", 201-300 "poor", 301-400 "very poor" and 401-500 "severe". An AQI above 500 falls in the "severe plus" category.

Dust storm, strong winds and rain swept parts of the national capital on Friday, and nine flights were diverted from the Delhi airport late in the evening due to bad weather, officials said. The PM10 pollution in Delhi soared to hazardous levels on Tuesday as strong winds swept the city raising dust and leaving a thick blanket of haze over it. The India Meteorological Department said dust-laden winds with speed up to 50 kmph breezed through the capital between 3 am and 6 am, lowering visibility to a mere 700 metres at 10 am at the Palam Observatory, close to the Indira Gandhi International Airport, as compared to 4,000 metres at 9 am on Monday. By 3 pm on Tuesday, the overall air quality index had worsened to 260, from 162 at 4 pm on Monday. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee data showed PM10 levels soaring to 3,826 micrograms per cubic metre at Jahangirpuri and 2,565 micrograms per cubic metre at Sri Aurobindo Marg.
