White-collar hiring activity witnessed a 6 per cent growth in September compared to the same month last year, mainly driven by a recovering IT sector, a report said on Thursday. The Naukri JobSpeak Index reached 2,727 points in September, marking a 6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth, it said. This positive trend was largely driven by a resurgent IT sector, which demonstrated 18 per cent YoY growth in hiring activity. Non-traditional IT hubs showed significant growth, potentially indicating a geographical diversification trend. Jaipur led the pack with a 47 per cent YoY increase in IT roles, followed by Kolkata at 32 per cent, the report said. The IT sector also saw a 35 per cent YoY growth in hiring for professionals with over 16 years of experience. Unicorns and foreign MNCs were key drivers of this growth, with 16 per cent and 14 per cent YoY increases, respectively, it added. The government on Thursday rolled out the internship programme that will provide financial assistance of Rs 60,000 per annum to 1 crore youth over a period of five years. In 2024-25, the total cost of the pilot project will be around Rs 800 crore and will look to provide internship to 1.25 lakh candidates during this fiscal, government sources said on Thursday. Announced in the Union Budget 2024, the Prime Minister's Internship Scheme in Top Companies will also provide insurance coverage to the interns. The scheme will be implemented through an online portal developed by the corporate affairs ministry. Subject to certain conditions, youth aged between 21 and 24 years will be eligible for the scheme, the sources said. The internship programme will commence on December 2. Several states on Monday called for creation of employment data and adoption of a focused approach for creating quality jobs. The suggestions were made at the fifth regional meeting of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment with all states and Union Territories. The meeting focused on discussions around labour reforms, the e-Shram portal, building and other construction workers (BoCW), and employment generation, reflecting the government's commitment to inclusive development and welfare of all sections of the workforce, the Ministry of Labour & Employment said in a statement. Timely and regular submission of employment returns and job fair details to the Directorate General of Employment through the modules on the National Career Service portal were also discussed, it said. The minister emphasised upon the importance of a robust mechanism to ensure that the benefits of the ELI Scheme reach the true beneficiaries. "The ministry is finalising a Cabinet note on ELI scheme and it will be soon placed before the Cabinet for approval," he told reporters here. Twenty-five travel agents in Punjab have been booked for illegally advertising employment opportunities on social media, said police on Wednesday. The action came after the Protector of Emigrants under the Ministry of External Affairs red-flagged the advertising on social media for jobs in foreign countries by such unscrupulous travel agencies. In a statement, Additional Director General of Police (NRI Affairs) Praveen K Sinha said these travel agencies were advertising jobs abroad without possessing the requisite licence and permissions. "We checked the online platforms, verified their credentials covertly and registered FIRs against them," he said, adding that a total of 20 FIRs have been registered under the Emigration Acts at various NRI police stations in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur and SAS Nagar. Tata Group will give jobs to 4,000 women from Uttarakhand at its plants in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Its Chief Human Resource Officer Ranjan Bandopadhyay has written a letter to this effect to the state planning department, an official release said here on Monday. The recruitment process will begin soon, it said. Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd will appoint 4,000 women candidates from Uttarakhand at its plants in Hosur in Tamil Nadu and Kolar in Karnataka under the NPS and NATS programmes, the release said. Those who have cleared class 10 or 12 examinations are eligible for NPS programmes, while for NATS an ITI diploma is necessary in addition to these, it said. After selection, they will be appointed as shop floor technicians. Apart from a fixed salary, they will also get accommodation, food, transportation and other facilities, it said.
