Syama Prasad Mookherjee Port (SMP), formerly known as Kolkata Port Trust, and NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, will form a joint working group to set up a green hydrogen and ammonia hub at the port, an official said on Sunday.
The MoU between the two public sector entities was signed last week, aiming to explore opportunities for the production, storage, handling, and bunkering of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and its derivatives with the support of the port, the official said.
As part of the National Hydrogen Mission, shipping and port operations will play a critical role in driving trade in green energy. Ports are therefore being developed to support the export requirements of green energy.
Speaking to PTI, SMP deputy chairman Samrat Rahi said that the scope of the MoU includes forming a joint working group to conduct a feasibility study, identify land for the project, and deliberate on financial models of partnership for the clean energy project here.

Odisha's GST collections increased by 12.85 per cent to Rs 4,249.12 crore in September, officials said on Sunday.
The state had collected a gross GST revenue of Rs 3,765.17 crore in the same month last year, they said.
The collection to be retained by the state (OGST+IGST settlement) was Rs 1,651.58 crore, against 1,157.08 crore in September 2022, a growth of 42.74 percent, they added.
The state generated 20.66 lakh waybills in September, as compared to 17.66 lakh waybills during the corresponding period of last year.
Helped by improved compliance, overall GST collections in the country increased by 10 per cent to over Rs 1.62 lakh crore in September, crossing the Rs 1.6 lakh crore mark for the fourth time during the current financial year.

Honda's MotoGP team and former world champion Marc Mrquez will be ending their 11-year partnership at the end of the season, the Japanese engine maker said Wednesday.
Driving a Honda, Mrquez won six world championships, won 59 races, and secured 64 pole positions in the MotoGP class.
His last world championship came in 2019. The 30-year-old Spaniard has struggled with injury since he broke his right arm in the 2020 opener. He is currently 15th in the points standings.
The agreement will cut short Mrquez's current contract by a year.
Both parties agreed it was in their best interests to each pursue other avenues in the future to best achieve their respective goals and targets, Honda said in a statement.

Beverages major Coca-Cola on Wednesday said it has introduced 100 per cent recycled PET bottles for its carbonated beverage supporting the circular economy.
The company has introduced recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles in pack sizes of 250 ml and 750 ml across several markets in India, said a statement from Coca-Cola India.
These rPET bottles are being manufactured by Coca-Cola bottling partners - Moon Beverages and SLMG Beverages Ltd, it added.
"The bottles made from 100 per cent food-grade rPET (excluding caps and labels) have an on-pack call to action "Recycle Me Again" message and will also drive consumer awareness with "100% recycled PET bottle" displayed on the pack," it said.
These rPET bottles are crafted from food-grade recycled polyethylene terephthalate. The plastic is recycled as per the technologies approved by the USFDA and European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for food-grade recycled material and repurposed into new PET bottles, reducing the need for .
