Ahead of Haryana polls, 23 IPS officers transferred with immediate effect

In a major administrative reshuffle ahead of assembly polls, the Haryana government Wednesday transferred 23 IPS and 27 Haryana Police Service officers with immediate effect. Among the Indian Police Service (IPS) officers who have been shuffled included some district police chiefs. According to a government order, among the IPS officers transferred included Satender Kumar Gupta, Inspector General of Police, Karnal Range, who has been posted as Sonipat Police Commissioner replacing B Satheesh Balan. Balan has been posted as Commissioner of Police, Jhajjar. Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, Superintendent of Police, Ambala, and Kurukshetra SP Surinder Singh Bhoria will swap places. Hisar SP Mohit Handa will be the new SP of Karnal in place of Deepak Saharan, who will be the new SP of Hisar. BJP leaders meet to discuss election strategy for Haryana Assembly polls

Senior BJP leaders held a meeting on Monday to discuss the party's strategy for the assembly elections in Haryana, due later this year. Home Minister Amit Shah, Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Manohar Lal Khattar and Krishna Pal Gurjar were present at the meeting, presided over by BJP chief JP Nadda at the party's headquarters in the national capital. The BJP's Haryana core group leaders, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, were also present. The meeting came within hours of Nadda appointing Pradhan as the party's election in-charge for Haryana, setting in motion its preparations for the assembly polls. BJP govt not in trouble, working strongly, says Haryana CM

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday said his government is not in trouble and is working strongly, a day after three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the BJP dispensation in the state. MLAs Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randhir Singh Gollen (Pundri) and Dharampal Gonder (Nilokheri) on Tuesday withdrew support to the BJP government and announced that they would back the Congress, reducing the Saini government to a minority in the state assembly. "The government is not in any trouble, it is working strongly," Saini told reporters in Sirsa when asked to comment on the withdrawal of support. Saini was campaigning for BJP's Sirsa Lok Sabha candidate Ashok Tanwar. The government which has the support of two other Independents is now two short of the majority mark in the 90-member House which has a current strength of 88.

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of him contesting the Lok Sabha elections and said a discussion was on within the party about fielding his son Deepender Singh Hooda from the Rohtak seat. "There is no intention that both of us will fight. I am also the Leader of the Opposition (in Haryana) and the Assembly polls are nearing. So I don't have any intention (to fight the parliamentary election)," the former Haryana chief minister told reporters in Rohtak. Replying to a question, the senior Congress leader said discussion is on within the party about fielding Deepender Singh Hooda from the Rohtak parliamentary seat. The Jannayak Janata Party on Wednesday issued a whip, asking its 10 legislators to remain absent from the House during voting on the confidence motion to be brought by the Nayab Singh Saini government in the Haryana Assembly. The BJP named Nayab Singh Saini as Haryana's new chief minister on Tuesday, hours after the surprise resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar from the post along with his cabinet ministers.
