IndiGo flight to Doha faces tech issue; long wait for passengers onboard

Passengers of an IndiGo flight from the city to Doha waited inside the aircraft for more than four hours as the flight was delayed due to a technical issue on Sunday. Some passengers took to social media to complain about the long flight delay and that they had to wait for long. The flight was to take off on Sunday early morning. Passengers were inside the aircraft for more than four hours before they deplaned. The flight is now expected to take off later in the day from the Mumbai airport, sources in the know said. IndiGo said its flight 6E 1303, operating from Mumbai to Doha, was delayed due to a technical reason. "The aircraft tried to depart for its destination a couple of times but had to finally be called off due to the extended time lag on account of various procedural delays," the airline said in a statement. E P Jayarajan travels by IndiGo 2 yrs after self-imposed boycott of airline

Over two years after he decided to never travel by IndiGo, former LDF convener E P Jayarajan on Thursday night travelled to Delhi on the airline from Karipur airport here. Jayarajan had in July 2022 decided not to travel by that airline after it imposed a three-week flying ban on him for his involvement in a scuffle onboard an IndiGo aircraft that was also carrying Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Confirming that he travelled on the low-cost airline, the CPI(M) leader said that he opted for Indigo in order to quickly reach Delhi to pay his respects to late party general secretary Sitaram Yechury who died on Thursday. IndiGo to soon offer gender-neutral option 'Mx' during ticket booking

IndiGo will be soon introducing the gender-neutral option of honorific 'Mx' for passengers at the time of booking tickets, as part of larger efforts to boost inclusivity. Besides, the country's largest carrier, which has a domestic market share of 62 per cent, aims to increase by two-fold the number of individuals with disabilities employed by it. The airline will be introducing the 'Mx' option at the time of booking for passengers and that will provide a choice for transgenders who do not want to identify themselves, Sukhjit S Pasricha, Group Chief Human Resources Officer at IndiGo, told PTI. Currently, 'male' and 'female' are the options available on the airline's website during the booking process. IndiGo to challenge order imposing penalties related to input tax credit

Leading airline IndiGo on Wednesday said it will contest two orders imposing penalties totalling Rs 3,50,299 on the company in relation to input tax credit. In Odisha, a penalty of Rs 1,77,046 was imposed on the company related to Goods and Services Tax (GST). "The appellate authority has rejected the appeal filed by the company and upheld demand on account of availment of input tax credit for FY 2017-18," InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo, said in a regulatory filing. According to the filing, IndiGo is in the process of contesting the appeal order before the appellate tribunal. Separately, in Kerala, the company is facing a penalty of Rs 1,73,253, with the filing saying "the tax officer has denied input tax credit availed and has raised a demand on the company". In this case, the company said it is in the process of contesting the orders before the appropriate appellate authority.

Domestic air passenger traffic rises 4.4% to 1.37 cr in May: DGCA

Domestic air passenger traffic went up 4.4 per cent to around 1.37 crore in May, according to official data released on Friday. The Indian scheduled air operators flew 1.32 crore passengers on domestic routes in May last year. "Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-May 2024 were 661.42 lakhs as against 636.07 lakhs during the corresponding period of the previous year, thereby registering an annual growth of 3.99 per cent and monthly growth of 4.40 per cent," the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said. In terms of on-time performance (OTP), Akasa Air topped the list at 85.9 per cent, followed by Vistara (81.9 per cent), AIX Connect (74.9 per cent), IndiGo (72.8 per cent), Air India (68.4 per cent) and SpiceJet (60.7 per cent), as per the data.
