West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will launch a scheme for development of rural roads at Singur in Hooghly district on Tuesday.
Under the 'Pathashree-Rastashree' scheme around 12,000 km of roads will be constructed or reconstructed in 29,475 villages of the state, a senior official of the Panchayat and Rural Development department said.
Twenty two districts will benefit from this project as 8,767 roads have been approved under this scheme, he said.
"New roads will be built and old ones will be completed within a specific time with the financial assistance of the state government. The CM will launch the scheme today from Singur," minister of state for panchayat, Becharam Manna told PTI.
The official said that 1,548 roads will be upgraded under the scheme.

The reservation of Other Backward Classes (OBC) will not be touched while giving quota to the Maratha community, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Friday.
During the day, CM Shinde held a meeting with representatives of the OBC and Nomadic Tribes at Sahyadri Guest House. It was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar as well as senior ministers and officials.
Representatives from these segments put forth their demand in the meeting.
"The government's stand is quota of any community will not be diluted. While giving reservation to the Maratha community, the quota of other communities will remain unaffected," Shinde said.
He added that the government stands firmly behind those from the Nomadic Tribes.
Shinde said officials have been directed to start 72 hostels for OBC students.
Fadnavis said implementation of schemes of Rs 4,000 crore is being done.

Telecom regulator Trai on Friday invited views to develop a policy framework for faster adoption of new technologies for economic development driven by the 5G ecosystem.
In the consultation paper on "Digital Transformation Through 5G Ecosystem", the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has identified emerging technologies like drones, the internet of things, and metaverse, among others, that can boost 5G utilisation and later on 6G.
"The authority has come out with consultation paper on suo-moto basis to identify the policy challenges and suggest the right policy framework for faster adoption and effective utilisation of new technologies for the holistic and sustainable development of economy driven by 5G ecosystem," the regulator said.
In the paper, Trai has identified security and privacy threats in the case of technologies like IoT and Metaverse and sought views on measures that should be adopted for the responsible development of these technologies.

An Akasa aircraft from Mumbai with 166 people onboard made an emergency landing at Varanasi airport on Friday after the airline received a bomb threat message on social media, according to an airline spokesperson.
The airline said the captain of the flight QP 1498 received an "emergency alert" from the Varanasi Air Traffic Controller and followed all required emergency procedures and landed the plane safely at Varanasi.
"At 1130 am, Akasa Air got a bomb threat message on social media. We informed the local police in Mumbai and initiated the procedure for filing an FIR," the spokesperson said.
Subsequently, the emergency response mechanism was put in place and as part of the security protocol, the airline informed all the 16 airports from where it operates  about the bomb threat and put them on alert, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said the threat was later categorised as "non-specific".
According to the airline, there were 166 people onboard, including 159 passengers, 1 .

Exposure to natural light may help treat and prevent type 2 diabetes, according to a small study.
The research, presented at the annual meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Germany from October 2-6, carried out a range of metabolic tests on a group of people with type 2 diabetes when they were exposed to natural light and when they were exposed to artificial light and compared the results.
"The misalignment of our internal circadian clock with the demands of a 24/7 society is associated with an increased incidence of metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes," said Ivo Habets of Maastricht University, the Netherlands, who co-led the research.
"Natural daylight is the strongest zeitgeber, or environmental cue, of the circadian clock, but most people are indoors during the day and so under constant artificial lighting," said Habets.
The yet-to-be peer-reviewed study involved 13 participants with an average age of 70 years who stayed in research
