Retail investors' participation in F&O trading surges, say experts

With growing participation of retail traders in the futures & options (F&O) trading, experts on Sunday said the prospects of quick profits and speculative nature of the instrument has attracted investors to this segment. They suggested investors to approach F&O trading with thorough knowledge and careful risk management. Small-cap MF assets soar 83% to Rs 2.43 trn in FY24 on retail investor boom

Influx of flows, upsurge in retail investors' participation and bullish market conditions have boosted the assets for the small-cap mutual fund category to Rs 2.43 lakh crore mark at the end of March 2024, marking an 83 per cent surge compared to the previous year. The surge in assets was complemented by an increase in the number of investors, with the number of folios reaching 1.9 crore in March 2024 from 1.09 crore a year ago, adding an investor base of 81 lakh. This shows investors' inclination for small-cap funds. Gopal Kavalireddi, Vice President - Research at FYERS, said that the growth trajectory of India's economy is attracting increased interest, leading many unlisted small-cap firms to seek support from the capital market. Equity investors' wealth tumbles by Rs 7.93 trillion in three days

Investors' wealth tumbled Rs 7.93 lakh crore in three days of market crash amid escalating tensions in the Middle East and weak global trends. Continuing its downtrend for the third day running on Tuesday, the 30-share BSE Sensex tanked 456.10 points or 0.62 per cent to settle at 72,943.68. During the day, it slumped 714.75 points or 0.97 per cent to 72,685.03. The market capitalisation (mcap) of BSE-listed companies was eroded by Rs 7,93,529.61 crore to Rs 3,94,25,823.46 (USD 4.75 trillion) in three days. In the past three days, the BSE benchmark tanked 2,094.47 points or 2.79 per cent. RBI to soon launch app for retail investors to participate in govt bonds

The Reserve Bank on Friday announced the launch of a mobile app to enable retail investors to participate in government securities (G-Secs) or government bonds market. RBI Retail Direct Scheme, launched in November 2021, gives access to individual investors to maintain gilt accounts with the RBI and invest in government securities. The Scheme enables investors to buy securities in primary auctions as well as buy/sell securities through the Negotiated Dealing System - Order Matching system (NDS-OM) platform. "To further improve ease of access, a mobile application of the Retail Direct portal is being developed. The app will enable investors to buy and sell instruments on the go, at their convenience. The app will be available for use shortly," RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said, while announcing the first bi-monthly monetary policy for the current fiscal. BLS E-Services IPO subscribed 162.48 times on last day of bidding

The Initial Public Offer (IPO) of BLS E-Services received a whopping 162.48 times subscription on the last day of bidding on Thursday. The Rs 311 crore IPO received bids for 2,22,63,80,472 shares against 1,37,02,904 shares on offer, as per NSE data. The part for non-institutional investors fetched 300.14 times subscription and the portion for Retail Individual Investors (RIIs) got subscribed 237 times. The category for Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) received 123.30 times subscription. The initial share sale of BLS E-Services Ltd was fully subscribed within minutes of opening for bidding on Tuesday.
