G20 Summit: Russia aims to become 'reliable' supplier of energy resources

Russia will seek to confirm its status as a "reliable and guaranteed supplier" of energy resources and export products to the world at the G20 Summit, the foreign ministry here has said as it confirmed the attendance of foreign minister Sergey Lavrov in New Delhi for the key meeting. Lavrov will attend the meeting instead of President Vladimir Putin, the ministry said, indicating that the Russian foreign minister could also discuss the issue of the grain deal during his bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the G20 summit to be held on September 9 and 10. Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February last year, the US-led Western countries have imposed crippling sanctions on Moscow, including a price cap on Russian oil by G7-plus nations, in order to reduce its ability to finance the war on Ukraine. The West has also criticised Russia for violating the Black Sea grain deal with Kyiv which would prevent crucial grain exports from Ukraine from reaching the world markets. At the G20

Pakistan on Monday began transporting the much-anticipated discounted Russian crude oil to a refinery here in the cash-strapped country's port city, a development that is likely to provide relief to the people hit by skyrocketing inflation. Russia's Lavrov warns that EU is becoming militarised now, like NATO

Russia's top diplomat warned Tuesday that the European Union is becoming militarised at a record rate and aggressive in its goal of containing Russia. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a news conference he has no doubts that there is now very little difference between the EU and NATO. Lavrov said they recently signed a declaration, which he said essentially states that the 31-member NATO military alliance will ensure the security of the 27-member EU political and economic organisation. He was apparently referring to a Jan. 19 EU-NATO declaration on their strategic partnership which calls Russia's Feb. 24, 2022, invasion of Ukraine the gravest threat to Euro-Atlantic security in decades. It calls the present moment a key juncture for Euro-Atlantic security and stability and urges closer EU-NATO cooperation to confront evolving security threats, saying this will contribute to strengthening security in Europe and beyond. And it encourages the fullest possible involvement of NATO ...

Russia strongly supports reform of UN Security Council, says Lavrov

Russia strongly supports the issue of reform at the UN Security Council to accommodate African, Asian and Latin American nations, the country's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Monday. Lavrov was addressing a media briefing after meeting with his South African counterpart, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Naledi Pandor, who hosted the Russian Minister for bilateral talks covering a range of issues. We strongly support the additional seats for developing countries because it is the under-representation of Africa, Asia and Latin America which is the key problem of the (UN Security) Council today, Lavrov said, expressing support for pleas made on several occasions by President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also said Russia cherished the cooperation of South Africa at the G20. The latest Summit in Indonesia was, I believe, quite telling about the desire of most members of the G20 to concentrate on the original mand
