Vodafone continues to lose subscribers, Airtel's additions at 6-month high, Jio retains the highest user base

The telecom subscriber base in the country declined by 117 crore in October due to Vodafone Idea losing a large number of mobile customers during the month, as per a report of sector regulator Trai published on Monday.
Only Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel added new customers in October while all other players mainly Vodfone Idea and state-owned BSNL lost a large customer base.
Reliane Jio and Bharti Airtel jointly added 22.1 lakh mobile customers while Vodafone Idea (VIL) lost 35 lakh mobile customer, BSNL lost 5.19 lakh and MTNL lost 3591 mobile subscribers.
"The number of telephone subscribers in India decreased from 1,171.92 million at the end of September '22 to 1,170.45 million at the end of October '22, thereby showing a monthly decline rate of 0.12 per cent," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in the subscribers report for October 2022.
Total mobile subscribers decreased to 114.36 crore at the end of October from 114.54 crore at the end of September.

Reliance Jio led active wireless subscriber additions in July at 6.1 million, while Bharti Airtel's active user adds stood at 2.3 million, according to latest data by TRAI.
Riding on the strong gains, Jio has scaled up its active subscriber market share, with its user tally on this count pegged at 346.49 million, analysts said crunching July telecom subscription numbers released by the sector regulator.
Motilal Oswal, in its report, said that Reliance Jio had active subscriber additions of 6.1 million (as against 2.4 million additions in June) reaching about 346 million users in July.
"RJio gained 40 basis points in active subscriber market share and now shares market leadership position with Bharti," it said.
Bharti saw active subscriber additions of 2.3 million to touch 346 million, although its active users adds were slower than last month (2.4 million additions in June).
Its active subscriber market share improved by 10 basis points to 35 per cent, the report said.

During a discussion on 'Parliamentary Journey of 75 years Starting from Samvidhan Sabha  Achievements, Experiences, Memories And Learnings' leader of the opposition Mallikarjun Kharge from Congress said, "Women Reservation Bill should come. Kharge highlighted the small numbers of women lawmakers in parliament, saying they constituted only 14 per cent in both houses combined, while their number in legislative assemblies is just 10 per cent.
The proportion of women MPs was just five per cent in first Lok Sabha in 1952.
Kharge told the House that the proportion of women members had risen to 28 per cent from two per cent in the US Parliament while in Britain, it jumped to 33 per cent from three per cent.

Multiplex Association of India (MAI) on Thursday announced that the National Cinema Day will be held on October 13 this year.
Movie enthusiasts will be charged only Rs 99 per admission at cinema halls across the country, the national multiplex trade body said in a press release.
Over 4,000 screens at multiplexes from India, including PVR INOX, Cinepolis, Miraj, and Delite, have teamed up to participate in the National Cinema Day celebrations, it stated.
"This special occasion brings audiences of all ages together for a day of cinematic bliss, celebrating the incredible success of multiple films at the box office this year.
"It's a heartfelt 'thank you' to all the moviegoers who contributed to this success and an open invitation to those who haven't yet returned to their local cinema," the association said.

Luxury taxis in West Bengal will be allowed to be painted in any colour other than white or cream for a fee of Rs 20,000 for each vehicle, a notification issued by the state transport department said.
The authorities will grant permission for motor cabs (luxury taxis), rendering limousine service, to be painted in any colour other than white or cream, for which an amount of Rs 20,000 will be charged as an application fee from the interested service provider for each vehicle, said the notification, issued by Transport Department secretary Saumitra Mohan on September 19.
Necessary amendments in the West Bengal Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, shall be made in due course, it said.
According to the notification, the department has been receiving proposals for granting permission for all Bengal luxury taxi permits for vehicles to be painted in any colour other than white or cream.
